System Start-Up

Topics

After the construction phase is completed, it is time to enter the operation phase of the project. With proper planning and thorough preparations, the project should go smoothly. However, there are still a few areas where a new pipeline operation can benefit from the involvement of an experienced operator, particularly in the following areas:

  • Commissioning
  • Start-up
  • Mentoring

Commissioning

To ensure a transparent process, the commissioning of a new pipeline system should not be performed by the same party who was responsible for the engineering or construction of the system. We provide independent commissioning services during which we perform the final “audit” function of the pipeline design and construction processes. The entire process is guided by commissioning manuals that ensure nothing is overlooked and a permanent record of the results is maintained.

Start-Up

When commissioning is complete, we develop an appropriate start-up plan with our specialists who posses the required expertise. A system that is not properly implemented can have serious consequences including:

  • Substantial delays in start-up of operations
  • Damage to facilities or equipment
  • Safety or environmental incidents

Enbridge has taken the lead role in planning and implementing the start-up of every pipeline we have built and can bring this expertise to your project.

Mentoring

Our mentoring services provide experienced Enbridge personnel that work along side your personnel for a designated period of time, depending on the position. This allows your employees to benefit and learn from specialists before they are solely in charge of their area. This is considered especially important for control center operators, whose role is essential to the operation of a pipeline.
