Engineering Standards

Enbridge Technology Inc. provides Engineering Standards that have been developed specifically for pipeline facilities and continuously improved by the ongoing operation of the Enbridge Pipelines Inc. system. Our standards detail the requirements for the design or modification of company facilities and associated equipment. Facilities include terminals, pump stations, receipt and delivery facilities, remote valve sites, and main line pipe.

Engineering Standards are intended to minimize design variance between sites, ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and best practices and provide a means to maintain and check design quality.

Features and Benefits

• Provides specific and general design requirements to meet company objectives.
• Standardizes system configurations, general equipment requirements and subjective design choices. If it is not possible to standardize, Engineering Standards shall provide guidance and insight concerning design decisions.
• Provides design criteria that, in all cases, meet or exceed all mandatory regulatory or industry design requirements.
Provides limited technical or historic background information related to a design requirement or guideline, when appropriate. Includes a sample calculation in an appendix, when appropriate.
